Stanley Stands Out In Burgin’s Win Over Fort Knox

The Bulldogs celebrated Sophomore Joceyln Stanley’s second home run in Burgin’s 15-4 win over Fort Knox Saturday, May. 9.

The Burgin Bulldogs softball team (4-14) beat the Fort Knox Eagles (4-14), 15-4,  on Saturday, May 9.

Sophomore Jocelyn Stanley had two home runs in the game and batted in five runs for the Bulldogs. Sophomore Leah Jenkins pitched all five innings and struck out three batters.

The Eagles batted first, and Jenkins walked the first batter. Freshman Lynley Thacker caught a pop fly at second base and threw out the runner at first for the double play. Freshman Baleigh Thompson collected a grounder at shortstop and got the last out with a throw to first.

Senior Ashton Lester was hit by a pitch, and both Jenkins and Stanley were walked to load the bases. Lester scored on a wild pitch to put Burgin on the scoreboard first, 1-0. Senior Briana Florian was hit by a pitch to load the bases again for the Bulldogs. Junior Kylie Perry hit a triple to the center field fence that scored three runs for Burgin, 4-0. The next two Bulldog batters struck out, but Thompson hit a grounder that brought Perry home, 5-0, The first inning ended with a ground out from junior Laynee Edwards.
