KFW Releases Information From Herrington Lake Boat Collision Investigation

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources has released information from their ongoing invesigation into the July 4 boat accident on Herrington Lake that left one person dead and another hospitalized.

According to a KFW press release, two boats collided, a wake boat operated by Cody Casey, 34, of Harrodsburg, and a pontoon boat operated by Alex Svintozelskiy, 58, of Nicholasville.

One of the passengers on the pontoon, Nazar Svintozelskiy, 25, of Nicholasville, was ejected into the water, according to the KFW. Nazar Svintozelskiy’s body was recovered Monday, July 6. The cause of death will be determined by the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort.

Alex Svintozelskiy was flown to the UK Chandler Hospital for medical treatment after the collision, according to a Mercer County Fire Department Facebook post. Three other victims were transported to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service in Svintizelskiy’s honor will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at the Ukrainian Pentecostal Church in Lexington, according to Fox56.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Svintozelskiy family during this extremely difficult time,” said Col. Jeremy McQueary, director of the KFW Law Enforcement Division, in a press release. “We pray for continued healing and recovery for Alex and express our condolences for the loss of his son.”

The operator of one of the boats involved in the crash was located by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office on the night of the incident and turned over to the KFW, who are leading the investigation in collaboration with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office.
