Four locals represented Mercer County well at two recent power lifting meets, taking home three first-place medals and one second-place medal. Carter Akers competed in the USPA Iron & Forge Invitational in Clarksville, Tenn. on June 13, and Malachi Davis, Kyler Sallee and Austin Cole all participated in the USPA Patriot Showdown in Elizabethton, Tennessee, on June 27.
The United States Powerlifting Association (USPA) was started in 2010 as a way to offer a uniform way to compete, measure and track powerlifting success across the country. The USPA provides opportunities for a range of lifters from the beginner to the elite level and both drug-tested and non-drug-tested divisions.
