Officials Recover Missing Person From July 4 Boat Collision

Authorities have recovered the body of the person who had been missing since Saturday’s boat collision on Herrington Lake.

On Monday, July 6, at approximately 3:50 p.m,, search teams located Nazar Svintizelskiy, 25. According to a Mercer County Fire Department Facebook post, Svintizelskiy’s body was recovered in 184 feet of water and taken to the Frankfort Medical Examiners Office for autopsy.

“It is a very sad ending for Nazar’s family but an opportunity for closure and ending of all the fake reports generated on social media,” wrote Dan Eades, the public information officer for the Mercer County Fire Department.

Eades and the fire department extended their condolences to Svintizelskiy’s family. Svintizelskiy’s father was flown to UK Chandler Hospital for medical treatment after the collision, according to a Facebook post.

The operator of one of the boats involved in the crash was located by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office on the night of the incident and turned over to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife at 1-800-252-5378.

According to a Facebook post, the Mercer County Fire Department was dispatched along with Mercer County Emergency Medical Services to a boat collision on Herrington Lake along Herrington Woods Road shortly after 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 4. The fire department deployed Water Rescue 6 along with Utility 6, Rescue 6, Squad 13, 101 and 602 to Pandora Marina (125 Pandora Drive).

Water Rescue 6 recovered one victim with traumatic injuries. The victim was flown to UK Chandler Hospital, according to the Facebook post. Three other victims were transported to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Rapid Response Services from Dublin, Ohio, was dispatched to help find Svintizelskiy.

In addition to the search personnel from Ohio, the Mercer County Fire Department also acknowledged everyone who participated in the handling the initial incident and the subsequent search, including Boyle County Fire, Garrard County Fire, Jessamine County Fire, Kentucky Fish and Wildlife, Mercer County Emergency Management, Garrard County Emergency Management and Kentucky State Emergency Management.

They also thanked Kamp Kennedy Marina for providing meals for the search teams and Burgin FRYSC for snacks and drinks. Thank you Pandora Marina for the use of their facilities as the command center.

“If I’ve missed anyone I apologize,” Eades wrote in the Facebook post. “It took tremendous teamwork for a horrible incident and we thank everyone involved again.”
