Lady Rebels Pass Titans In Seventh Inning

The Mercer County Titans softball team (9-10) lost 3-5 to the Boyle County Rebels (9-10) on Thursday, April 30.
The game was tied 3-3 going into the final inning and the Rebels were able to take a two-run lead late, and the Titans couldn’t answer. Freshman Reese Ransdell pitched the whole game for the Titans, striking out four batters and giving up five runs. Junior Izzie Carlton was Mercer’s best hitter in the game, batting three runs and hitting a home run.
Boyle County batted first, and Ransdell started the game with a strikeout, and junior Lily Hart made a catch in center field for two quick outs. After a single from the Rebels, Mercer got the third out on a ground ball to seventh grader Brooklyn Baker at second base. Junior Jaley Bowman led off for the Titans and reached base on a grounder to third. Strikeouts from Hart and Carlton, along with a flyout from sophomore Ava Musick ended the first inning.
Mercer got three straight outs in the top of the second inning, starting with senior Ella Davis fielding a grounder at shortstop. Bowman made a nice catch in the right field, and Ransdell picked up her second strikeout of the game. The Titans also had three straight outs in the bottom of the second from Baker striking out, Ransdell out at first on a bunt, and senior Mia Floro popped out in the infield.
In the top of the third inning, Boyle County reached base on an error and followed it up with a single on a bunt. A fielder’s choice earned the first out for the Titans, but the Rebels scored on the next at bat from an error, 0-1. Mercer was able to get another out on a grounder to Ransdell, but moved runners to second and third base. Both runners scored on a grounder to center field, and Mercer got the third out on a fly ball to Bowman in right field, 0-3.
