The Burgin Bulldogs (2-6) picked up their second win of the season in a rout of Frankfort Christian Academy (2-8) on Thursday, Dec. 19, in the Jack Coleman Jr. Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs started the game with confidence and physicality and forced three turnovers soon after the jump. Burgin’s first few baskets came in transition beginning with a corner three from sophomore Micah Mayes, who has shot 33% from behind the arc through six games. Freshman Hudson Taylor picked up a loose ball and finished through contact on the other end before completing the and one.

Casey Dodson played strong in the paint early, and Burgin was able to utilize his passing ability early. The junior kicked it out to Taylor for an open three, making the score 11-2 with 3:18 to go in the first quarter.

“Casey did a great job of distributing the ball and taking his shot when he should have. He is basically a first year varsity player after having to sit last season with an injury. He will only get better with every game,” said Head Coach Todd Claunch.

FCA finally got a few shots to fall, but the Bulldogs led 16-11 after one quarter.

Dodson finished a breakaway strong at the rim, but the Bulldog’s offense struggled in the opening half of the second quarter. The Bulldogs were finding open looks and taking the right shots, but they weren’t falling. Eventually Burgin’s defensive play and quickness in transition led to a 7-0 run. Junior point guard Landen Sexton delivered a perfect pass to Mayes in a fast break situation for an easy basket. On the following possession, Sexton missed a floater, grabbed his own missed shot and put the Bulldogs up by nine. Burgin was playing far too fast for FCA and every look was an open one. Mayes knocked down two more treys in the final two minutes of the first half, and Burgin led 32-21.
