Mercer County seventh grader Trey Reilly has had a season like no other. At only 13 years old, Reilly spent this past weekend competing with some of the best archers in the world. Reilly steadily improved throughout the winter and played an important role in helping the Titans to a second-place finish at this season’s regional tournament. After qualifying for state, Reilly dominated the competition and finished the tournament as the top archer in Kentucky in the seventh grade, and the third overall archer out of 1763 middle school competitors.
At the National Archery in the Schools Program Nationals in Louisville, Reilly shot a 284, enough to qualify for the World Championships in Daytona, Florida, June 6–8. Reilly wrapped up an amazing season competing against the world’s best and scored 271 on the big stage, enough to place him 134 out of 482 middle school boys.
“He wasn’t happy, but he understood that it was the world championship and it was a good ending to his seventh grade year,” said Trey’s father, Richard Reilly.
Troy Reilly plans to reach the world championship again and will be focusing on his consistency next season as an eighth grader. Along with qualifying for NASP nationals and worlds, Reilly has set a goal of helping the Mercer County Titans win a region championship and qualify for state in 2025.
“Daytona was a cool experience, just getting to go. I plan to keep practicing and challenging myself to do better each time I shoot and continue to be coachable,” said Reilly.
