The Christian Life Center is holding a drive-through food collection event on Sunday, July 24, from 1-3 p.m. due to food shortages from increased demand. The center is located at 232 South College Street and donors are asked to use the Curry Avenue entrance.
“In January, the center handed out 158 parcels,” said Executive Director Beth Bowling. After the center’s move from Main Street in March, the number crept up to 164 parcels in April and jumped to 183 in May and 221 in June. So far in July they have already handed out 115 parcels and are concerned they will not have enough in stock to finish out the month.
“Since moving, we have more and more families requesting food assistance and we can’t keep up with the demand,” said Bowling. “Likewise, more and more people are requesting financial assistance.”
The center is focusing on receiving donations during the drive, however for those needing to donate on other days, Bowling asks that donations be made Monday through Friday, from 9-11 a.m. or 1-3:30 p.m. It may also be necessary to call ahead to make sure volunteers are available to handle large donations. Appointments can be made for Saturday delivery.
