The Mercer County Titans baseball opened the season with an exciting game  against the Ballard Bruins Monday, March 14. The Titans jumped out with a 3-0 lead,  when the Bruins fought to take the lead by one in the fifth. Returned senior Caleb Purdom hit a homer to score two runs and clinched the win for the Titans, 5-4.

Left handed pitcher, junior Evan Hart started out pitching for the Titans. He only allowed one base on balls during the first inning and no runs scored. Mercer’s momentum at the plate was slow to get going. Seniors Cayden Devine grounded to the shortstop, while Riley Peavler was out on a foul tip. Sam Baughman was able to get on base on a dropped third strike, but he was caught stealing at third after Ballard recovered a bad bounce at second.

In the top of the second inning, junior Jonathan Logdon had the running catch at the fence to earn the first out. Hart struck his next batter out and Logdon earned his second out with a fly out at right. Mercer’s bats got hot and senior Isaac Beasley doubled on a line drive and was able to steal his way to third. Hart singled to center and batted Beasley in to get the Titans on the board, 1-0.
