Winning three championships at any level is a daunting task for any team, but the Mercer County Lady Titans did just that, 3-peating as region 12 champions and heading back to the state tournament held at Northern Kentucky University from March 8-11.
The Lady Titans defeated the Lincoln County Lady Patriots (23-8) by a score of 83-67 in what was a physical game for both schools, just a day after beating the Southwestern Lady Warriors (19-10) in the semifinals 64-46.
Head coach Chris Souder’s group will be heading back to the St. Elizabeth Healthcare KHSAA Girls Sweet Sixteen after falling just short in the semifinals last season against Franklin County.
“It’s a great accomplishment and we look back and nobody has won the 12 region three times in a row in more than 38 years,” said Souder, “so that just tells you how hard it is to do and it’s a testament to our kids and our program the last several years.”
