Mercer County freshman Haley Blevins finished fourth in the KHSAA Class AA State Cross-Country Meet Saturday afternoon at the Kentucky Horse Park. Blevins finished with a time of 19:22.40. Lexington Catholic’s Michaela Reinhart won the meet with a time of 17:57.18.

Blevins wasn’t the only Lady Titan running Saturday afternoon though.  The entire Mercer County girls team competed in the State Meet, including three who finished in the top-100 out of 207 runners.

Emma Leitenberger finished in 93rd place with a time of 22:18.79. Piper Dowd wasn’t far behind Leitenberger, as she finished with a time of 22:24.53, which was good enough for 100th place.

“Three of five girls were in the top-100 runners out of 207 at the state competition, which is awesome,” said Mercer County Cross-Country Coach David Teets.

As a team, the Lady Titans finished 15th out of 26 schools.

“I am proud of them. They all ran well, most of which ran their best time of the year,” said Teets. “We will keep advancing and getting better.”

On the boys side, Trevar Lay led the Burgin Bulldogs to a 12th place finish overall in the Class A State Cross-Country Meet.

Lay placed 27th overall with a time of 17:32.58.

Besides Lay, four other Bulldogs finished in the top-100. Senior Wesley Qualls finished in 61st place with a time of 18:13.42; sophomore Drew Hatfield finished 90th with a time of 18:40.98; Daylan Hodges finished 92nd in 18:42.56 and Hunter Preston finished in 18:45.98, which was good enough for 94th place.
