Lady Titans Soccer Beat Danville In Season Opener

Mercer sophomore goalkeeper Kailee Hensley punted the ball out of the 18-yard box in the Lady Titan’s 2-0 win over the Danville Lady Admirals. Hensley had five saves in the shutout.

The Mercer County Lady Titans soccer team got off to a strong start Monday at Danville helping themselves to a season opening win.

Mercer County had a chance to score just three minutes into the game on a cross by Lindsey Haralu that  landed inches from the goal, but none of her teammates could get there in time.

Moments later at the six minute mark, Mercer got their season opening goal when freshman mid-fielder Emma Davis scored for her first career goal. Senior forward Kelsee Darland sparked the scoring play with a shot that struck off the left goal post. Darland chased down the show and played the ball into the middle of Danville’s 18-yard-box where Davis finished the play with a goal, giving Mercer the 1-0 lead.

“Emma was all smiles after that goal. She stepped up huge in Lauren Goodlett’s absence. It was just a big time moment and I hope this sets a fire for her to score more goals for us,” said Head Coach Tony Brown.

The Lady Titans didn’t waste any time scoring again, as Maddie Bartley scored just two minutes later off of a Samantha Travillian corner kick.
