Titans Handle Bulldogs On Senior Night

Mercer’s Mason Thompson rounds third base before heading home in the Titan’s 19-2 win over Burgin Friday.
It was a tale of two teams Friday night when the states No. 5 ranked Mercer County Titans hosted the winless Bulldogs of Burgin. Making matters even more one sided, the Titan’s were saying goodbye to the programs most successful senior class in program history, having won the 12th Region the past three years.
Nerves got the better of Burgin early as they committed three errors in the bottom of the first inning, allowing Mercer to take a 4-0 run.
The Titans exploded in the second inning adding 13 more runs and taking a 17-0 lead. After a scoreless third inning Mercer added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth increasing their lead to 19.
The Bulldogs refused to quit however, scoring two runs of their own in the top of the fifth inning, but by then it was too late as Mercer got the win in five innings, 19-2.
