Saturday night the Burgin boys basketball team was able to do something they hadn’t done all season long. After defeating the Colonels of K.S.D. Thursday night, 50-24, the Bulldogs picked up their second straight win beating the Wildcats of Bath County (5-2), 65-52.

Both team’s offenses struggled in the opening five minutes with Burgin holding a 6-4 lead with three minutes left in the first quarter. A pair of Wildcat three pointers, in a span of 30 seconds, put Burgin in a four point hole, but the Bulldogs closed out the quarter with a 7-3 run, with the score tied at 13-all going into the second quarter.

A 9-2 run to open the period gave the Wildcats their second lead of the game, 19-15, with six minutes left in the half. Burgin continued to fight back, tying the game at 21-all three minutes later and closed out the half with an 8-2 run, giving them a 29-23 halftime lead.

The game remained close in the second half with Burgin continuing to lead, 36-32, five minutes into the third quarter.

Another offensive run by the Bulldogs, this time a 10-2 run, put the Wildcats in a 46-34 hole that they were unable to climb out.

The Bulldogs were led in scoring and rebounding by Alex Beckerson with 28 points and 13 rebounds. Nick Beckerson nearly had the teams second double-double, falling a point short with 12 rebounds and nine points.
