They say “revenge is a dish best served cold,” and Monday night the Burgin volleyball team got to force feed a big, cold plate of it to the Lady Patriots of Lincoln County while getting the schools first region win in any team sport.

“This has been on our to-do-list the past two years,” said Burgin Head Coach Maggie McKnight on getting a win in the 12th Region tournament. “We came up short last year in a really disappointing match so, to get the opportunity to play Lincoln again was big for us.”

The Lady Bulldogs fell to Lincoln County in the opening round of the 2011 12th Region tournament, but Monday night they flipped the script on the Lady Patriots defeating them in straight sets 25-11, 25-16, 25-18.

“I feel like we were in control of the ball on our side of the court. We focused on making clean passes and using them to play aggressively at the net,” said McKnight on her teams one sided victory. “That’s what gave us the advantage on the scoreboard. Not letting a run by Lincoln or a questionable call get to us and maintaining our focus.”
