It’s a busy weekend, with the return of the Mercer County Field to Fork Swap, Brunch with the Babies and Family Farm Days at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill and the Spring Brawl Demolition Derby at the Mercer County Fairgrounds. Local author Victoria Burns leads an interactive reading of Baby Caterpillar, followed by free-play time with soft climbing mats, tunnels, and sensory activities designed for little ones ages 6 to 18 months. • Mercer County Field to Fork Swap (670 Beaumont Plaza). Find competitive prices and all kinds of great things, including jams, jellies, salsa, pickles, lotions, soaps, crafts, produce, fresh beef, fresh lamb, chicks, chickens, garden plants, eggs and more. • Brunch with the Babies at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill (3501 Lexington Road). Enjoy kid-friendly brunch buffet in The Trustees’ Table or a continental breakfast in the Meeting House, then join the fun at Family Farm Days. Times are available from 8 to 10 a.m. Pricing for the Hot Brunch Buffet is $33 for ages 13 and up, $25 for ages 6 to 12 and free for ages five and under. We’ll also have activity stations, sheep shearing, hay wagon rides, scavenger hunts, pony rides, storytime with the baby animals, face painting and more surprises. Starts 10 a.m. Admission for exhibits and tours is $20 for age 13 to 61, $10 for ages 6 to 12, free for children five and under, $15 for seniors aged 62 and up, first responders, active and veteran military. • Astronomy in the Field at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill (3501 Lexington Road). Join the Bluegrass Amateur Astronomy Club to view the wonders of the night sky. Using a variety of telescopes, on clear nights you will be able to observe objects within our solar system, as well as a wide variety of deep-space objects. Knowledgeable club members will ensure you are informed and inspired! Each viewing is free to the public and weather-dependent. Join the Preserve Team to learn about some of the ways fire has been used intentionally as a management technique for Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill’s prairie restorations. Starts 2 p.m. Program will take place shortly after the implementation of prescribed fire in a few areas of the Preserve, and participants will get to see a before-and-after comparison of burned and non-burned prairie areas.
