The Burgin baseball Bulldogs (5-13) battled with top-seeded 46th District opponent West Jessamine in the opening round of the district tournament on Monday, May 19.
The Bulldogs have turned things around in the first season with Head Coach Chris Harkins at the helm, and the dramatic change in the atmosphere around the program culminated in some great defensive play over the first two innings. West Jessamine pitcher Dylan Mulholland kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard in the top of the first, striking out back-to-back batters to close out the frame, but the Bulldogs came ready to play. The Colts got one on the board after a triple from senior Hayden Peters put them in scoring position after the first at-bat. Still, Burgin pitcher Casey Becknell responded by striking out the following batter. Senior J.T. Boswell covered the final out from the center field position, holding the Colts to just one run after the opening inning.
