There was no shortage of runs or exciting plays when the Burgin Lady Bulldogs (8-12) met the Danville Christian Academy Lady Warriors (5-10) for the second time this season on Saturday, May 11. In their last meeting on May 6, Burgin claimed their seventh win of the season in dramatic fashion, defeating the Lady Warriors, 16-15.

DCA grabbed four runs in the top of the first, and neither team slowed down.

Ashton Lester walked to first, and Cloey Henson popped up into center field. Lester turned on the jets and made it all the way home before DCA could get the ball in. Later in the bottom of the first, Jemma Jenkins got caught up traveling to third and made her way back to second. She was forced to turn back around and duck below the throw, sliding headfirst into third. Seconds later, Jenkins made her way home with another Lady Bulldog runner after Hayley Hurst blasted a line drive off of the center field wall.

DCA put on a clinic, hitting in the top of the second, and four straight batters made it on base. Jenkins put her body on the line, trying to stop a runner sliding into home, but the Lady Warrior runner was called safe for their fourth run of the second inning. It seemed it just wasn’t the Lady Bulldogs’ day as Jenkins walked two more batters, both of whom rounded the bases. Jenkins’ frustration could be felt by anyone watching, and she eventually asked to be subbed. The junior stayed active at third base, making a great grab in foul territory to end the top of the second.
