The Mercer County Titans baseball team (12-4) lost 1-5 to the West Jessamine Colts (9-12) on Monday, April 20.
This was Mercer’s first regular-season district game of the year, and it came down to extra innings. Senior Ayden Stephens pitched seven innings for the Titans, giving up five runs and striking out 11 batters. Senior Jackson Doughty finished the last inning on the mound with one strikeout. Freshman Tucker Dean scored the lone run for the Titans as a courtesy runner for Stephens.
At the top of the first inning, the Colts kicked things off with a single to center field. Two groundouts in a row moved their runner to third base, but Stephens ended any scoring chance with a strikeout.
