The Kentucky Blood Center is hosting a blood drive at Harrodsburg Christian Church Fellowship Hall (305 South Main Street) on Tuesday, Nov. 18, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

While supplies last, donors will receive a Big Blue Crush shirt, a collector’s item for many donors, is a heathered white long-sleeve with a retro logo.

Giving blood to Kentucky Blood Center saves local lives throughout the year, but Kentucky fans who donate during Big Blue Crush have extra incentive: a chance to beat rival Tennessee.

The 38th annual Big Blue Crush is Nov. 17–21, and Mercer County will play a significant role in the competition with an upcoming blood drive. The weeklong blood battle pits the Kentucky Blood Center vs. MEDIC Regional Blood Center in Tennessee to see which fan base can collect the most blood.

The winner gets bragging rights and a trophy, but more importantly, the motivated fanbases provide the blood supply with a critical boost for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org.
Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are welcome. To schedule a donation, visit kybloodcenter.org or call 800-775-2522.

Kentucky Blood Center, the largest independent, full-service, nonprofit blood center in the commonwealth, has been saving local lives since 1968. Licensed by the FDA, the Kentucky Blood Center’s sole purpose is to collect, process and distribute blood for patients in Kentucky. The nonprofit blood center provides services in 90 Kentucky counties and has donor centers in Lexington, Louisville, Frankfort, Pikeville, Somerset and the Tri-County area (Corbin).
