Deadline To Apply For Federal Disaster Relief Is Friday, July 25

The Harrodsburg Herald/Robert Moore
As flood waters began to recede along U.S. 68 at the Jessamine County line earlier this year, authorities were shocked to discover a truck submerged by the river.
Homeowners and renters who experienced damage or loss caused by the April severe storms, straight-line winds, flooding, landslides and mudslides have less than two weeks left to apply for disaster assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The deadline to apply is Friday, July 25.
In May, FEMA opened a disaster recovery center to help Mercer County residents file claims for disaster relief at the Mercer County Health Department. In addition, FEMA representatives went door-to-door asking residents if they’d experience and storm damage.
April Storms (DR-4864-KY) Recovery Update
As of July 16, FEMA has approved more than $26.8 million in housing and other types of assistance to more than 3,496 Kentucky households. More applications are being processed daily.
The local disaster recover center is closed, but there are still several ways to apply for FEMA assistance. Residents can apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov. or visit the FEMA Disaster Recovery Center at the Franklin County Frankfort Plaza, located at 827 Louisville Road in Frankfort. The disaster center is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Anyone seeking to file a claim can also use the FEMA mobile app or call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. Help is available in many languages. If you use a relay service, such as Video Relay Service (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that service.
When you apply, you will need to provide:
• A current phone number where you can be contacted.
• Your address at the time of the disaster and the address where you are now staying.
• Your Social Security Number.
• A general list of damage and losses.
• Banking information if you choose direct deposit.
• If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name.
Survivors should keep their contact information updated with FEMA as the agency may need to call to schedule a home inspection or get additional information.
Disaster assistance is not a substitute for insurance and is not intended to compensate for all losses caused by a disaster. The assistance is intended to meet basic needs and supplement disaster recovery efforts.
