Patients at Harrodsburg Health and Rehabilitation Center are being returned indoors after what officials called an “electrical error” on Tuesday, June 2.

First responders from the Harrodsburg Fire Department, AmeriPro Emergency Medical Services, the Harrodsburg Police Department and the Mercer County Emergency Management Agency were on the scene.

According to Mercer County Emergency Management Director Brad Cox, there was an electrical error from the main line at the weatherhead, the entry point where power lines enter a building.

Cox said the emergency generator was working, providing approximately 70 percent of power. He said they had evacuated 92 patients.

Volunteers, including from the Mercer County Chamber of Commerce and the Harrodsburg Herald, among others, had brought tents for the elderly patients. The the temperature was in the mid 80s at about 4:30 p.m.

Cox said workers were in the process of restoring power. With the generator working, Cox said it had been decided it would be safer for the patients to be indoors than wait outside until full power was restored.

“We’re in the process of evaluating the patients and staging them inside the building,” Cox said.

Firefighters from the Harrodsburg Fire Department and staffers at Harrodsburg Health and Rehabilitation Center were helping patients get back inside.

Jessica Toth, the administrator at Harrodsburg Health and Rehabilitation Center asked the reporter to leave.
