A Danville man has begun the new year with a whole slew of charges against him, including wanton endangerment and unlawful imprisonment.
According to the uniform citation, the incident began Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025, at approximately 2 a.m., officers from the Harrodsburg Police Department stopped a 2014 Hyundai Accent on Ballard Street for having one operational taillight. Police identified the driver as Jesse Lewis Mayberry, 42, of Danville, who was traveling with two female passengers. Police “observed a strong odor of alcohol and marijuana emitting from the vehicle,” according to the uniform citation.
Upon the officer’s request, Mayberry stepped out of the vehicle. Police “observed a glass pipe with burnt residue in the driver’s door,” according to the uniform citation.
When police attempted to detain Mayberry, he pushed the officer away, got back into the Hyundai and took off at “a high rate of speed,” according to the uniform citation. Going east on Cane Run Street, Mayberry is alleged to have accelerated through the red light at the bypass and continued onto Burgin Road. The HPD officers terminated the pursuit at Buster Pike, according to the uniform citation.
Dep. Ridge Yeast of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle Mayberry had been driving wrecked at Cane Run Camp Road. According to the uniform citation, Mayberry had fled on foot. During a search of the vehicle, police found a gun box, holster and three rounds of 9mm ammunition, according to the uniform citation. Police also found a digital scale. At approximately 4:11 a.m., HPD Patrolman Dustin Mikal located the two female passengers. According to the uniform citation, the passengers said they had begged Mayberry to stop and let them out, but he refused. Eventually, he slowed down enough for them to jump from the vehicle. Both women were injured, according to the uniform citation.
The MCSO located Mayberry at Herrington Woods and placed him under arrest. Mayberry is being held at Boyle County Detention Center on charges including 1st-degree fleeing or evading police in a motor vehicle, 1st-degree wanton endangerment, wanton endangerment—discharge of firearm (police officer), 1st-degree unlawful imprisonment, 3rd-degree assault of a police officer—noncommunicable bodily fluid, resisting arrest, obstructing or interference with a police officer, 3rd-degree fleeing or evading a police officer and violating a Kentucky EPO/DVO.
