Volunteer Linda Honnold was at the sweetest spot in Harrodsburg in 2023: she was running the dessert table at the Christmas Tea Room at the Harrodsburg Historical Society. This year’s tea room happens on Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7.

Harrodsburg has been named one of nine slow-paced towns to visit in the southern United States.

“These towns are slow-paced but that doesn’t mean they are boring,”editor Bradley Cooper wrote in the article. “In fact, with the many museums, Civil War sites and beautiful national parks, visitors will find plenty of hidden gems in these slow-paced towns.”

Among the historic spots highlighted by Cooper include Old Fort Harrod State Park (100 South College Street).

“Visitors can explore a militia blockhouse, the Mansion Museum, which houses artifacts from the Civil War and the Lincoln Marriage Temple, a small log cabin where Abraham Lincoln’s parents were wed,” Cooper wrote. Visitors can also enjoy the Christmas Tree Forest, sponsored by the Mercer County Chamber of Commerce and Auto Kustoms, which will remain open until Jan. 6, 2025.

World Atlas also highlighted Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill, which is lighting up for an 18th century style Christmas with Candlelight Tours Fridays on Dec. 6, 13 and 20, with tours at 5:30 and 7 p.m. Illuminated Evenings happen Saturdays on Dec. 7, 14 and 21, starting at 4 p.m. Hop on the Jingle Bell Shuttle, write a letter to Santa, sip hot chocolate, enjoy music performances, make a craft in the Elf Shop and sing carols while the staff light up the tree.

Shaker Village is also hosting Children’s Tea Time with Mrs. Claus every Saturday through Christmas, with tea times at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Dec. 7, 14 and 21. To learn more, or to make a reservation, call 859-734-5411 or visit online at shakervillageky.org.
