It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around Harrodsburg and Mercer County as several events return to kick off the holiday season. The 35th Annual Christmas Bazaar happens at St. Andrew Catholic Church (1125 Danville Road) on Friday, Nov. 15, and Saturday, Nov. 16, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with lunch served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Mary Kay Mayo, the publicity co-chair for the Christmas Bazaar, said you can expect holiday crafts, gift baskets, a homemade bake sale and the traditional silent auction, with 10 percent of the proceeds benefitting the Christian Life Center.
“We love this time of year because people come from all over the community,” Mayor said. “We look forward to it.”
Lunch costs $7 and features sandwiches, soup, chili and homemade desserts.
“We sure hope you’ll come and have lunch for us,” Mayo said.

That’s not all. Old Fort Harrod State Park (100 South College Street) is hosting the Fourth Annual Winter Encampment from 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, to 10 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24. The winter encampment will coincide with Old Fort Harrod’s Annual Holiday Open House and the lighting of the Christmas Tree Forest on Saturday, Nov. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. The events are all free and open to the public.
According to an Old Fort Harrod Facebook post, this is the first Holiday Open House in two years, as the fort was closed for renovations for Harrodsburg’s 250th anniversary.
Everyone is invited to come and tour the fort at night under candle and lantern light. Old Fort Harrod will be decorated for Christmas and there will also be free cookies, coffee, hot apple cider and hot chocolate to enjoy, as well as handmade items in the gift shop. In addition, re-enactors will be camping out for the weekend.
