Two Men Charged With Sexual Abuse

The Mercer Grand Jury handed up indictments last week on charges including sexual abuse.

Manuel Hernandez Guzman, 25, of 1860 South Danville Bypass, Danville, and Kelly J. Shackelford, 38, of 203 East Broadway Street, Harrodsburg, were indicted on the following counts: 1st degree sodomy, a class B felony, and 1st degree sexual abuse, a class D felony. In addition, Guzman was indicted on a class B felony county of 1st degree rape.

Between the dates of June 1, 2022, and July 3, 2024, Guzman and Shackelford are alleged to have engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim, who was 16 years old at the time, while both defendants were at least 10 years older, alone or in complicity with one another. During the same period of time, Guzman and Shackelford are alleged to have subjected a female child to sexual contact, alone or in complicity with one another, according to the indictment. Between the dates of June 1, 2022, and Feb. 22, 2023, Guzman is alleged to engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim by forcible compulsion, according to the indictment.

Bail for Guzman was set at $100,000 while bail for Shackelford was set at $50,000 with the condition that the defendants have no contact with the alleged minor victim or each other. Patrolwoman Tabitha Shewmaker (Harrodsburg Police Department) testified.
