Weekender For Aug. 8—16: Rhythm Rising, Friday Night On Main, Goat Yoga, Pioneer Days And More

You can hear a great weekend coming up, with the Rhythm Rising at Terrapin Hill Farm bringing three days of music to Mercer County. The gates open at noon on Friday, Aug. 9, with the opening ceremony at the pavilion starting at 2 p.m.
Friday Night On Main at Olde Town Park happens Friday, Aug. 8. The headliner is Eight Daze Sober as well as food and shopping from 5 to 10 p.m. Music starts at 6 p.m.

Want a great workout? Inner peace? Love goats? Then you want to head to Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill on Saturday, Aug. 10, for Goat Yoga, which they call a beginner-friendly yoga class with a little help from Nigerian Dwarf goats. After the hour-long session you’ll enjoy some playtime with your new goat friends and sip on some garden-fresh tea. Classes happen at 10 a.m. and noon.

Ragged Edge Community Theatre will become a movie house again when they host two screenings of Disney’s “Moana” starring the voices of Auli’i Cravalho on Saturday, Aug. 10. Screenings are scheduled for 3 and 7 p.m.

Pioneer Days returns to Old Fort Harrod State Park on Thursday, Aug. 15. The festival starts at 5 p.m. with the baby show 6 p.m. There will be a costumed kids show at 7:30 p.m. and Meet the Titans at 8 p.m. In addition, there will be yard games, puzzle time, the unveiling of the giant mural and music.

Gates open at noon for the three day festival with the opening ceremony at the pavilion starting at 2 p.m. Workshops at 3 p.m. including beginner drumming class with Ed Haggard at the chapel stage, Afro-Cuban dance with Esmilda Navarro at the pavilion, “Rhythm and Reality: The Vibrational Nature of Nature” with Thomas Orr Anderson at the Terrapin stage and Latin percussion with Caleb Leiva at the Roundhouse. Workshops at 4:30 p.m. include Cuband drumming technique with Dann Sherill, Latin dance with Fransico-Javier Leonardo Garcia at the Pavilion, “Healing Power of Drumming” with Brenda Cashel at the Terrapin Stage, and West African Strings: Ngoni and Kora” with Sekouna Conte at the Roundhouse.
