Philip Thrine Harpring,72, of Indianapolis, Indiana, and a frequent visitor to Harrodsburg, died Aug. 13, 2019, at his residence.
Born Dec. 21, 1946, he was the son of Alphons Harpring and Ruth Thrine Harpring.
Harpring earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and a master’s degree from Butler University and was a lifetime member of the IU Alumni Association. He taught physical education and coached in Lawrence Township for many years. As a young man he was active in the YMCA, was a gymnast with the American Turners and served in the USMC Reserves. He was also an active member of the Indy Dancers Club until his death.
Harpring is survived by two daughters, Gina (Robert Moore) Harpring of Harrodsburg and Julie (Ian Eschbacher) Harpring of St. Louis, Missouri; one sister, Sharon (David) Poultney, and one brother, Gordon (Nora) Harpring, all of Annandale, Virginia; and grandchildren, William and Claudia Harpring Eschbacher of St. Louis.
The funeral was Sunday, Aug. 18, 2019, at Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary.
