Firefighters Build Porch for Colleague Fighting Cancer

Several firefighters from Danville volunteered time to help Mercer County resident James Nichols complete his porch. Nichols said construction was completed on April 27.

At his house on Bohon Road, James Nichols always wanted a porch on the front of his house to sit and enjoy the outdoors as the sun goes down.
“I’ve got one on the back, but in the afternoon the sun is back there,” he said.
James’ dream of a porch seemed to be put on hold, however, when he was diagnosed with lung cancer last year. Surgery to remove the affected lung went well.
