It took all 32 minutes of regulation and an additional four in overtime, but when the game was finished the Lady Bulldogs remained in prime position to clinch the No. 2 seed in the 46th District by defeating West Jessamine 56-49.

Burgin took control of the game early taking a 17-2 lead after the first quarter with Randi Burke leading the way with nine points.

The Lady Bulldogs continued to lead through the second quarter, but poor free throw shooting allowed the Lady Colts to work their way back in the game. Five straight points by Lady Colt Ashlee Rose gave West Jessamine their first lead of the game with 2:27 left in the first half, 24-22. West was able to hold onto the lead going into halftime up 26-23.

“West Jessamine is a very physical team and very good on defense, our shots just weren’t falling in that second quarter,” said Burgin Head Coach Ray Daniels. “We missed too many layups and too many free throws but we were able to correct those things in the second half.”

Burgin finished the game 16 of 28 from the free throw line.
