Burgin Independent athletics are making some changes heading into the next school year, with Matt Grimes resuming the role of athletic director. Grimes previously held the position seven years ago and is ready to build on the strong foundation provided by Brent Wagner.

“It really feels like coming home. I was fortunate to serve as athletic director from 2007 to 2018, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to return to the role. Burgin has always taken great pride in its athletic programs, and I’m excited to once again work alongside our student-athletes, coaches, parents and community. A lot has changed over the past seven years, but our commitment to students has not. I’m looking forward to building on the strong foundation that’s already in place,” said Grimes.

Grimes has quite the workload for the Bulldogs, serving as the middle and high school assistant principal, director of pupil personnel, safe schools coordinator, and varsity boys’ and girls’ golf coach, while also serving as athletic director. He is ready for the challenge and feels that all those roles share a common theme: helping students.
