Authorities Still Searching For Person Missing After Herrington Lake Boat Collision

Authorities are still searching for one person missing after an Independence Day boat collision on Herrington Lake.

According to a Facebook post from the Mercer County Fire Department, search crews are back on the lake this morning trying to locate the victim. Authorities are asking boaters to avoid the site. They said it makes it extremely difficult in rough water.

The victim has still not been located.

Mercer first responders were dispatched to a boat collision on Herrington Lake along Herrington Woods Road shortly after 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 4. The fire department deployed Water Rescue 6 along with Utility 6, Rescue 6, Squad 13, 101 and 602 to Pandora Marina (125 Pandora Drive).

Water Rescue 6 recovered one victim with traumatic injuries. The victim was flown to UK Chandler Hospital, according to the fire district’s original Facebook post. Three other victims were transported to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Dive teams and boats were deployed from Boyle County to find the missing person. A specialized rescue crew came from Ohio to assist in the search. Command is operating out of Pandora Marina.

On Monday, July 6, Camp Dick Fire and Rescue’s Facebook page was asking boaters to avoid the area where first responders were working. Ongoing recovery efforts are at the Red Gate/Mile Stretch area.

The operator of one of the boats involved in the crash was located by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office on the night of the incident and turned over to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife at 1-800-252-5378.
