The Mercer County Titans baseball team (16-14) had an exciting 10-9 win over the Franklin County Flyers (10-9) on senior night, Monday, May 11.
The Titans celebrated eight seniors pregame, including Ayden Stephens, Carter Devine, Brennen Taylor, Jackson Doughty, Rylan Lake, Noah Worthington, Brayden McGuffey and Carter Ruehs. Five different seniors split time on the mound and Doughty got the win, pitching three innings and giving up one run. Mercer trailed by eight runs in the fifth inning and fought back to win the game on a walk-off double from Stephens.
Stephens started on the mound and pitched a shutout first inning that included a strikeout and two groundouts from the Flyers. Devine led off for the Titans and hit a double to left field. Doughty was walked and Devine stole third base. Stephens popped out and Worthington was walked to give Mercer loaded bases. The Titans couldn’t bring their runners home with Lake striking out and McGuffey’s fly ball was caught in center field.
