Campbellsville University-Harrodsburg announced the closure of its undergraduate programs via a press release on Wednesday, April 30. The undergraduate programs will not officially close until after the conclusion of the 2025 Fall semester, but it has had an immediate impact on the several sports programs the Pioneers fostered for nearly a decade.
Harrodsburg native Austin Sparrow has had a hand in leading the Pioneer Men’s Basketball team since 2019, and officially took over the role as Head Coach of the Pioneers in 2020. Sparrow and the Pioneers went on to achieve the campus’ first ever national championship when they claimed the NCCAA Division-II National Title in 2022, and they also won two regional championships in 2022 and 2024. Sparrow is proud of what the program was able to accomplish in such a short period of time.
“It’s been a blessing to be able to do that. I came in as a 22 year old, undeserving college graduate, and I feel like I am leaving this program proudly. I think this school has taught me a lot; it’s taught a lot to the kids that come here. For me personally, It has been the greatest honor of my life so far, to lead Campbellsville University-Harrodsburg Men’s basketball, and to represent my hometown,” said Sparrow.
Sparrow says that the closure of athletics at CUH wasn’t a scenario expressed to the staff until about 48 hours prior to the official announcement. He and the fellow athletic department staff in Harrodsburg were under the impression they would be operating for at least one more year, giving them some time to improve the financial situation.

It’s very sad to hear that the athletic department is closing down. I was really proud of the school and the teams. Maybe sometime in the future it will reopen. I don’t know, but very discouraging. For the athletes, they’ve worked so hard. To gain notoriety
