Esther Carey

Esther F. Carey, 83, widow of Omer Carey Jr., of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2025, at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born July 24, 1942, in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Jesse W. and Hazel Lee (Wells) Tate.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Christian faith.

Survivors include: two daughters, Sheila Hanes and Eva (Paul) Hensley, both of Harrodsburg; one brother-in-law, Larry Richard; one sister-in-law, Karen Tate; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Bobby Carey Jr.; one brother, A.J. Tate; and three sisters, Virgie Richard, Bonnie Richardson and Susie Merriman.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Greg Collier officiating. Burial was in Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery.
