Renny Cox

Renny Cox, 82, of Lexington, died peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025.

Born on Nov. 22, 1942, in Hazard, he was the son of the late A.J. and Pauline Robinson Cox.

He was a long-time resident of Harrodsburg, with his late wife, Nancy Driskell Hale Cox, who preceded him in death.

Renny loved life, family, flying and golf. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and enlisted upon graduation at 17. At 26, while working in Reno, Nevada, he became a pilot. He enjoyed flying his plane to many destinations and on vacations with his wife, Nancy. They hosted a Fourth of July celebration for many years that became a favorite family tradition. He was an avid golfer and played almost every day after retirement.

Survivors include: one son, Kevin (Melissa) Vermillion of Hazard; one stepson, Kevin (Ella) Hale of Harrodsburg; and a stepdaughter, Carla (Jeff) Montgomery of Harrodsburg.

He is survived by his grandchildren, Rebekah (Zack Stephens) Vermillion, Alex Vermillion, Dustin Hale, Greg (Stephanie) Hale, Daniel (Tara) Barrett, Jill (David) Wease and Heath Montgomery; as well as great-grandchildren, Katie Hale, McKinlee Lewis, Jack Barrett, and Grayson Wease; and several nieces and nephews.

Renny is also survived by two sisters, Jeanne Wombles of Lexington and Rhonda Gillis of McLean, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by twin sisters, Cora and Mary Cox, and one brother, Johnny Cox.

A memorial service was held 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Midway Christian Church.
