The Mercer County Titans baseball team’s (15-21) season ended at the hands of rival East Jessamine in the opening round of the 46th District tournament on Monday, May 20, at East Jessamine High School.

It was a low scoring affair that included only 10 hits in 49 at bats. Titan sophomore Ayden Stephens started on the mound and earned his first of five strikeouts in the opening at bat. Stephens was able to strike out the third out in the top of the first as well, but not before an error and two passed balls allowed the Jaguars to take a one run lead. Carter Devine and Andrew Tatum had the most successful combination of the night at the plate when they each singled to open the bottom of the first inning. Stephens bunted out, advancing runners, and senior Will Johnson was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Unfortunately for the Titans, Brayden Campbell popped up to center field and Tatum was caught off of second base, the double play put an early end to the inning and the Titans left three runners on bases.

Stephens struck out two more batters in the top of the second inning.
