The Burgin Lady Bulldogs softball team (5-8) put on an offensive showcase during their doubleheader with Fort Knox (2-13) on Saturday, April 20. Burgin outscored the Lady Eagles by an amazing 23 runs to five over two games.

The Lady Bulldogs second game of the day was just as successful as the first.

Kelsey Slone’s hit rolled around in front of home plate and the defense hesitated, but by that point it was too late, Slone had turned on the jets, beat the throw to first base and scored a Burgin runner in the confusion.

The Lady Bulldogs led 4-0 after one inning. Jemma Jenkins pitched a great game and found herself fielding much of the Lady Eagle’s contact at the plate.

Slone made an athletic grab on a pop fly and one batter later J. Jenkins left the circle to field a short hit and throw out the runner. At the end of three, Burgin maintained a 4-1 lead.

Jenkins left the circle to earn the Lady Bulldogs first out of the fourth inning with a diving grab. The junior came up big again in the fifth inning, striking out the final batter. After the first inning, Burgin struggled at the plate until the bottom of the fifth when eighth grader Jocelyn Stanley hit a bomb to the wall and scored Cloey Henson. Moments later, Hayley Hurst grabbed a big hit deep into center field. At the end of six, Burgin led Fort Knox, 6-1.
