Shirley Greenburg
Shirley S. Greenburg, 92, of Harrodsburg, widow of Louis H. Greenburg, died on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at UK Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington.
Born Feb. 16, 1927, in Burgin, she was the daughter of the late Roger and Nell Austin Stevens.
She was a graduate of Burgin High School, majored in music at Transylvania University in Lexington, a former secretary for Hallmack in Harrodsburg, former secretary for the Mercer Chamber of Commerce, and Co-Owner of the Mercer County Department Store. She was a former member of the Harrodsburg Historical Society, Past President of Harrodsburg School’s PTA, prior winner of the Mercer County Democratic Women’s Achievement Award, and a member of the Harrodsburg Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed bridge, playing the piano, attending antique auctions, and was a comedic storyteller, an avid reader, enthusiastic bird-watcher and pet-lover.
Survivors include: two sons, Douglas (Adele) Greenburg and Darryl G Greenburg both of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Myra Greenburg of Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother, James A Stevens of Danville; two grandchildren, David (Rebecca) Greenburg of Whispering Pines, NC and Esther (Gil) Hayslett of Harrodsburg; five great grandchildren, John Hayslett and Lauren Hayslett of Harrodsburg, Lucy Greenburg and Lily Greenburg of Whispering Pines, NC and Matheus Greenburg of Recife, Brazil.
In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by two brothers, Roger C Stevens Jr. and Joe A Stevens.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 14, at Sims Funeral Services in Harrodsburg from 1:30–3 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service will immediately follow at 3 p.m., officiated by Shirley’s nephew, Rev. Clay Stevens, Pastor of the Springfield KY Presbyterian Church.
