Trying to repeat as champions at any level is a tough task, even for one of the top ranked teams in the state. The Lady Titans of Mercer County won their first round match up against the Boyle County Lady Rebels (12-11) 90-68.

Five Lady Titans were in double figures as Coach Chris Souder’s team pulled away from a tough Lady Rebel team who wouldn’t go away without a fight.

The Lady Titans struggled in the first half with fundamentals. Missed passes and box-outs were happening in flurries as Boyle County kept creeping back into the game after a small Mercer County run. It seemed that every chance the Lady Titans had to put the game away for good, the Lady Rebels had an answer to keep things interesting.

Souder talked about working on defense during their three days of practice before playing again on Friday.

“Again, we just have to be better defensively and get better rebounding the basketball,” said Souder.
