Mercer Girls Advance to Semifinals of Titan Holiday Classic

Mercer County freshman Lexy Lake shot a three-pointer in the Lady Titans win Sunday night.

The Mercer County girls basketball team bounced back with two wins in the first two rounds of the Titan Holiday Classic. The wins come after the Lady Titans lost their two previous games in the semifinal and third-place game of the Owensboro Invitational Tournament (their first two losses of the season).

The Lady Titans led 24-4 after one quarter in their opening round matchup of the Titan Holiday Classic versus  LCA Saturday night as they rolled to a 78-37 victory.

The game was never close as Mercer County was up 19-1 before LCA got their first basket with 1:01 remaining in the quarter.

After going into the second quarter with a 24-4 lead the Lady Titans continued to add on to the lead in the second quarter, outscoring LCA 27-12 in the quarter to take a 51-16 halftime lead.

In the third quarter the Lady Titans continued to roll, thanks in large part to the sharp-shooting of sophomore Alie Burke, who had nine points in the quarter. They led 69-27 heading into the final quarter.
