After rolling over Washington County (6-4), 58-31,  and Henry County (3-8), 63-31,  in the opening two rounds of the Lake Cumberland Classic,  the Lady Titans came up just short of Adair County (9-3) in the championship game Saturday, 75-73, snapping their four game winning streak.

Mercer opened the game outscoring the Lady Indians 17-12 in the first quarter, but 20 points in the second by Adair gave the Lady Indians a 32-29 lead.

Cassidy Martin led the Lady Titans in scoring and rebounding with 38 points and 11 rebounds, it was the third time this year she scored more than 30 points. Still it wasn’t enough to help Mercer get the win.

Mercer scored 23 points in the third quarter, but were never able to pull away from the Lady Indians who shot 30 total free throws compared to Mercer’s eight attempts.

That disparity helped the Lady Indians outscore Mercer by six in the final period sending the game into overtime with the score tied, 65-all.

“This was a tough loss because I felt like we let too many opportunities to get control of the game slip away,” said Mercer Head Coach Chris Souder. “We had another huge scoring night from Cassidy (Martin) and we also had a big night from Raegan Freeman.”

Freeman had the team’s second highest scoring total with 12 points and Catheryne Claunch also got into double figures in points with 11 and a team high seven assists.
