The Harrodsburg City Commission has accepted a bid to pave city streets. However, it’s still not clear when work will begin.

In March, the city commissioners approved a list consisting of streets, including Larchmont Avenue, Linden Avenue, Veterans Park Drive, North Main Street, Commerce Drive, Cedar Street, Magnolia Street north from Broadway to the dead end, Hill Street, Forsythe Street, Daisy Street, Bacon Court and the city owned portion of Sleepy Hollow Road.

The city received a $224,000 Local Assistance Road Program to pave the first five streets, with $17,000 or Larchmont, $85,000 for Linden, $18,000 for Veterans Park, $43,000 for Commerce and $61,000 for North Main.
At the commission’s regular meeting on Monday, April 27, they awarded the paving bid to Mago Construction, the only bidder.

Chief Administrative Officer Stacey Maynard said Mago’s bid does not include milling. Maynard said the contractor charged a mobilization fee per occurrence and they also charged per day for milling. She said the five streets funded by LARP would require two days of milling. Maynard said the city has not received the LARP funding and probably will not receive it until the 2027 fiscal year. She said the city has $60,000 in its paving account, leaving them approximately $210,000 short until they receive the funding.

Commissioner Marvin “Bubby” Isham asked about taking money from the bank and then using LARP funding to reimburse it.

“I don’t have an answer for that yet,” Maynard said. She said they don’t know what they’re getting from the state next year.

“It kind of makes it hard to plan for anything,” Mayor Bob Williams said.

The city commission will need to approve the streets to be paved separately, probably in a special-called meeting, Maynard said.

Commissioner Isham moved to accept the bid, with a second from Commissioner Jack Coleman. There was no further discussion, and Isham’s motion passed unanimously.
