The Mercer County Fiscal Court voted to hire a contractor to replace components of the HVAC system at the Mercer County Fiscal Courthouse.

At their regular meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 12, the fiscal court voted to replace a three-ton rooftop unit for $13,000 and a six-ton rooftop unit for $18,000. The magistrates selected Hayslett Mechanical Contractor Inc. The winning bids from Hayslett were less than half the other quotes the county received, according to Judge-Executive Sarah Steele.

On Tuesday, Judge Steele said the HVAC system at the fiscal courthouse is 17 years old. Recently there have been issues in the county clerk’s vault, where documents including property deeds are stored. Steele said it would be a four to six week lead time.

She said there is money in the county budget for courthouse maintenance and repairs. The county will also have to pull money from reserves, the judge said.
