The Harrodsburg-Mercer County Joint Planning and Zoning Commission is looking to hold another public hearing on a proposed data center ordinance in July.

Last month, the Harrodsburg Herald reported that the planning and zoning commission would be holding a meeting in June even though no date had been set.

Kylie Donnally, the director of planning and zoning, said they are now shooting for July. Donnally said there were issues with advertising the meeting.

Planning and zoning officials have previously said they would like to hold the meeting again at Campbellsville University Gymnasium.

The commissioners have modified the ordinance since they held their last public meeting in April. The revised ordinance will be made available to the public before the meeting. Donnally said they hope to provide something by this week.

The ordinance would have to be passed by both the Harrodsburg City Commission and the Mercer County Fiscal Court.

In other news, Mercer County is getting a new boutique event venue.

At their regular meeting on Friday, June 26, the Harrodsburg-Mercer County Joint Board of Adjustments and Appeals approved expanding a conditional use permit to allow the owners of the 250-year-old Bourbon Railroad House, which is currently being operated as a short-term rental, to use it as an “intimate” event venue.

The property is owned by Shuster Enterprises LLC and is located at 223 West Factory Street. According to the map, the area is zoned R-2 (High-Density Residential).

At Friday’s meeting, the owners, Susan and Anthony Shuster, said the Railroad House has a perfect rating with guests.

“It’s not just an AirBNB, it’s an experience,” Susan Shuster told the board.

They asked for permission to operate the property—which was formerly known as the Pawling House and dates back to 1815—as a boutique event venue for up to 30 guests with overnight accommodations for up to nine guests. Engagement parties, farm-to-table dinners, and corporate retreats are the kind of small events the Shusters said they have in mind.
