Lady Titans Earn Senior Night Win Over Wolverines

The Mercer County Titans softball team (12-12) beat the Western Hills Wolverines (4-17), 7-1, on senior night Friday, May 8.
The Titans celebrated their four senior players and manager pregame, highlighting Ella Davis, Emory Thompson, Jayla Sanders, Mia Floro and Alyssa Pittman. Davis started at pitcher and gave up two hits in five innings with two strikeouts. Sophomore Ava Musick pitched the final two innings and collected five strikeouts and gave up one hit.
The Wolverines batted first, and Mercer picked up two outs from a catch in center field from junior Jaley Bowman, and junior Izzie Carlton collected a ground ball at first base. Western Hills hit a home run over the center field fence to take a one-run lead, 0-1. Davis struck out the next batter for the third out.
In the bottom of the first inning, Bowman and junior Lily Hart were both walked and Musick was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Carlton struck out and Thompson put the Titans on the board with a sac fly, 1-1. Sophomore Reese Ransdell struck out to end the first inning.
In the top of the second inning, Ransdell caught a pop fly at shortstop for the first out. Davis walked a batter and the Wolverines moved the runner with a sac bunt. Western Hills rounded out to Davis, who made the play at first to get the last out. Floro hit a ground ball and reached base on an error and Davis moved her to second with a sac bunt. Sanders grounded out, but Bowman hit a double to left field to put the Titans in front, 2-1. Hart struck out to end the second inning.
