The Harrodsburg-Mercer County Joint Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing to gather input on a proposed ordinance addressing so-called hyper-scale data centers. The special-called meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 28, starting at 5 p.m. at the Campbellsville University Harrodsburg Athletic Complex (772 University Drive).
Chairman Bobby Upchurch announced the meeting at the Planning and Zoning Commission’s regular meeting on Friday, April 10. Upchurch said the proposed ordinance should be available for public review starting Tuesday, April 14, online and at the planning and zoning office (109 Short Street No. 1).
Meeting notices will be listed online and in the Harrodsburg Herald, he said.
Speakers at the special-called meeting must identify themselves. They will be allotted three minutes for testimony. Upchurch said they will not swear everyone in, but everyone must enter testimony that is “true and honest.” They can submit documents longer than 3 minutes.
“I suspect it will be a fairly long meeting,” Upchurch said.
The planning and zoning commission will not take action at the end of the meeting. Commissioners will use input to make recommendations to the Mercer County Fiscal Court and the Harrodsburg City Commission, which will ultimately vote on the ordinance.
Upchurch told the crowd at Friday’s meeting that there would be no further discussion about data centers at this meeting. He also declined to accept a packet that was offered. Upchurch said information could be submitted to the planning and zoning office.
“There will be no more data center discussion,” the chairman said.
The planning and zoning commission then approved a zone change from B-3/B-2 (business) to R-2 (residential). The 10.621-acre tract is located on Sparrow Lane and owned by Phyllis Long. The application was submitted by PVB423 LLC. The rezoning request will be next to the Harrodsburg City Commission.
