Lady Titans Fall In Defensive Showdown

The Mercer County Titans softball team (7-6) lost 2-3 to the Frederick Douglas Broncos (9-2) on Monday, April 13.
The game was low scoring, with five strikeouts from both teams and only 11 hits in the game. Senior Ella Davis started at pitcher for the Titans and pitched five innings, striking out five batters. Sophomore Ava Musick finished the game and pitched two innings with no hits.
The Broncos batted first and started with a line drive to Senior Emory Thompson at third, who made the catch for the first out. Frederick Douglas followed up with a home run to left field to take the lead, 0-1. Davis struck out the next two batters to end the top of the first inning. Junior Lily Hart led off for Mercer and reached base on an error. Junior Natalie Johnson popped out, and junior Jaley Bowman grounded in a fielder’s choice. The first inning ended with Musick trying to run out on a dropped third strike.
