The Harrodsburg-Mercer County Tourist Commission hopes to leverage data to convince a new hotel or motel to give Mercer County a try.

At their regular meeting on Wednesday, March 11, the tourist commission voted to hire a hospitality advisory firm to perform a feasibility study. The commissioners hope the study is the first step in attracting a new hotel or motel.

“This is kind of a big one,” said Daarik Gray, executive director of the tourist commission. He said there is one hotel that has visited several times.

The tourist commission sent out a request for bids and received two, including one that was 179 pages long. One of the bidders promised to break down the information and would recommend target brands. The other bidder told the commission that their goal is to get a hotel in the community.
