Mercer Archery Hosts First Tournament Of Season

The Mercer County Titans archery team hosted its first home tournament of the year Saturday, Dec. 6, winning the high school meet with an overall score of 3242. Middle school placed third behind Lincoln County and Elkhorn, with an overall score of 2935. Mercer County Intermediate placed third with an overall score of 2284.
The Titans had some prominent performers throughout the tournament, including sophomore Billy Vaught with a score of 279, winning first place in the high school boys division. Freshman Jeffery Lay finished right behind Vaught with a score of 279, placing second in the high school boys. Levi Robinson took third with a score of 273 and Trey Reilly finished out the top five, shooting a 268.
The Mercer County High School girls took four of the top five spots on the day, with senior Norah Martin placing second with a score of 278. Freshman Khloe Maddox finished third overall, hitting a 278, followed by senior Paige Bedard, who shot a 272. Freshman Dixie Vaught placed fifth with a 270.
Head Coach Ryan Ward was proud of his team and said they battled some nerves in their first meet, but he was really impressed by everyone.
The Titans head to Boyle County next on Saturday, Dec. 13, and are back home Saturday, Jan. 3, for their Bullseye and 3D tournament.
